I recently read "Hawaiian Surf and Dolphin Magic" by Lani E. Lowell to a small group of children in my community. Very well received, I felt that I should share this author with my extended community.

"Hawaiian Surf and Dolphin Magic" is the tale of a young girl at the awkward time between childhood and adolescence who is uprooted when her family moves to Hawaii from the mainland. The main character "Lani" learns to trust others and herself when her magical dreams come true. This book also blends fantasy with real places in Hawaii, places where some of my audience had actually been. With powerful location descriptions and universal concepts including exclusion and self-discovery, "Hawaiin Surf and Dolphin Magic" delivers readers a potent dose of fantasy and reality. Perfectly suited dreamtime material for young kids with no insult to their inherent gravitation toward the magical.
