About the Book

Forty-eight graduates of Roosevelt High School in Honolulu, Hawaii have written about a disaster that they could never forget, the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7,1941. They were the youth from classes 1935 to 1953, youth whose ages ranged from only six to 24 years. Writing those traumatic memories gave them a sense of relief after all these years. Many of the memories are tragic, but some contain a humor that only youth can experience in dire circumstances. It was the end of an era in a place as close to paradise as many have ever experienced. As war has been substituted for negotiation,we need to think of the impact of this tragedy upon our children.

About the Author

Monita Low Boesewetter grew up as an Army Brat beginning her global travels at an early age. Living in Hawaii in her teens brought out a love of nature and a lifelong appreciation of beauty. Some years in college, a spell in wartime Washington, a good marriage, three wonderful children, the support of a wonderful husband and later his loss have all contributed to a meaningful existence. Reunions of the Class of ’40 from Roosevelt High School in Honolulu inspired the collection of these memoirs. Stone carving first, followed by travel and now writing, make a full life fuller. She lives in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City and loves it.
