About the Book
This book is a translation of letters, cards, telegrams, etc. from the German. They were received by the author from family, friends, teachers, and classmates while living as US citizens in Nazi Germany during the waning years of WW II. The author’s reminiscences of events called forth by these letters are in italics and cover mundane subjects like the use of “Heil Hitler” and exceptional events like Gestapo interviews. Primarily they are letters from the author’s father while incarcerated by the Nazis to his distant, lonely son.
