About the Author

Marta Gonzalez, or "Miss G," as her students call her, is an educator of twenty-two years. Her extensive work with children using multicultural music, has prompted her to compose the song "Proud People." " While growing up in New York, I've always wanted to explore my Puerto Rican ancestry; How it has survived despite all of it's hardships and conflicts," says Miss Gonzalez. "As a result, I've tried to instill in the children I teach, the importance of one's own culture." When not teaching, Marta composes and sings in the church choir. She currently lives in South Hill, Virginia.
