About the Book

The Elliotts of Hardin County, Tennessee in the War for Southern Independence is the story of one family’s experience during the defining moment in American history. The book centers on the military service of Private James Thomas Elliott of Company B, 34th Tennessee Infantry from 1861-1865. From the exuberance of pre-war patriotism, to the horrors of the battlefield at Shiloh, this book examines a typical Southern family during the most traumatic time in American history. Walking the battlefields of the past helps connect us today with ancestors who fought and died for beliefs that have made America the greatest country mankind has ever known.
