A THOUSAND CANDLES is the story of

Daria Hunter as she follows her

dream to the Pacific Coast to escape

conventional life in her hometown.

Pearl Harbor brings the reality of war;

its tentacles reaching out to pull

airplanes from the sky, sink ships, turn

mythical islands into battlegrounds and

cliffs into challenging barriers.  Daria

waits on the home front, caught in a

web of friendship, emotional hellos and

good-byes and a passion that catapults her

beyond earth’s boundaries to discover her flaws,

frailties and fantasies.

A THOUSAND CANDLES will bring forth

joy and tears to celebrate a love few may

ever feel while renewing flames of hope

that life is out there, waiting to be lived,

if one listens to their heart.

I looked into his eyes and saw the invisible force

that bonds a pilot to his airplane.  He was flying

up into the sky far above the clouds that screened

my vision.  I was standing on the ground praying, hoping

that he would come back to me.  

I looked across the table consuming every crevice

of his face, the passion reflected in his eyes and the

lips I had never felt on mine.

I looked down.  “I’m glad you like it so much.”

His fingers gently lifted my chin.  For a moment I

was in the backseat of his convertible when our eyes

had connected briefly in the rear view mirror.  Now

his eyes probed deeper.  “Daria, remember when I

wrote to you that I think of you as Hanna?  Promise

me, you’ll always be flying beside me.”

Like a propeller spinning through the air, suddenly my

heart was soaring.  “Yes.  Yes.”
