Two hundred years after the Great Wound . . . After the eradication of technology; the slaughter of most of the planet’s populace; and the upheaval of the continents--the story begins.

STRIDER knows that he has powers. He can heal, meld with another’s mind, and he is an empath. But he does not know how he came by his gifts. And, he is unaware that he will be a participant in an ancient prophecy. He is to be, in fact, the key participant.

He has heard there are people with abilities similar to his own and he begins a journey to find them.

He is joined by Jeran, a shape shifter; and Connor, a traveler from the Southlands, with curious skills. Their joining heralds the onset of the prophecy.

But their journey is not an easy one: They are being hunted. They must travel through treacherous terrain. Deal with unsavory individuals. And Strider must learn to control his Kindred gifts, if the prophecy is to be fulfilled. But this does not prove an easy task: His powers are growing. And they are becoming stronger with each passing day.

Their journey, however, is not without its rewards: They will meet a race of people, whose beauty and near-perfection surpasses that of any race known on the planet. They will find love; unexpectedly. And others will rally to their cause: The fulfillment of the prophecy.

From the Great Wound is a different take on wolves, shape shifting, and the potential of man’s innate abilities. It is designed to entertain, but it also expresses values about society, and bends the reader’s ear with presentiments about the destiny of life on this globe.

In early times, realizing the benefit a symbiotic union would yield, wolf and man became allies. Each species had something to offer the other. The wolf had a highly organized pack; with focus on family, a structured hierarchy, and the strategy of the hunt. Examples man emulated. Man offered a safe haven; he shared fire, feast and companionship with the wolf.

Before the advance of intellect, man had to rely on his primordial abilities, as did the wolf. From the Great Wound brings man and wolf together again, in a future where technology has been extinguished. Devoid of the science of technology, man begins to develop the science of the mind: flexing and nurturing those once atrophied abilities; the primeval gifts. The main character, Strider, is a Kindred. A race endowed with a plenitude of these abilities. He meets, and forms a link, a meld, with Jeran, a Wolven shape shifter. They are to take part in an ancient prophecy that will require the full use of Strider’s Kindred gifts. Fulfillment of the prophecy will set to rights the legacy of damage left to the planet by man’s earlier pursuit of industry and science. It will herald evolutionary changes.

Humor and savagery, compassion and madness, play across the pages as the two main characters journey on their quest. Each has their own agenda, but it will be to the same end; the future of mankind--the preservation of a planet.

I love reading out in the sun, but there is a danger when it´s a really great book.

The burn is worth it. Not just because the premise of this book, From the Great Wound, is refreshingly different. Oh sure-post-apocolypse books have been written, but this book doesn´t focus that much on destruction. Ra
