About the Book
In his first book of poems, Neil SookDeo enjoys discovering many topics and many styles. Whether he chooses haiku, meter and rhyme or not, sonnet, free verse or math poems for children, SookDeo emphasizes optimism. Some topics hint at serious or tragic events, but one leaves this slection of 100 poems with a sense of having met a writer who aspires to the best at what poetry represents.
About the Author
Neil SookDeo, poet and educator, has lived in the US since 1998 and has a passion for communicating with the Past. He believes that History not only matters, but shapes our thinking in ways we may not always understand. These subtle influences on our thoughts and actions explain differing responses to other cultures and the environment, and ultimately toward conflict. Sookdeo, a native of South Africa, is well-versed in Southern African history. He was born near Durban in 1959. His ancestors hail from India and this led to parallel interests in the history of migration and in Oriental Studies, including the spread of Buddhism. Without being all things to all people, he does try to be fair as a person and scholar who believes that bitter truths, if not confronted, may be postponed indefinitely. Dr. Sookdeo graduated from Johns Hopkins University (May 1996) and returned to work in South Africa until October 1998.
