About the Book
This is a story about baseball. It all happened many years ago in the days when Dizzy Dean was a person, not an age group…when baseball was played for the smell and feel of a leather glove, the sound of the ball on the bat, and for the love of the game.
It was a time when professional baseball players were judged, not by their enormous bank accounts and absurd salaries, but exclusively by their performances on the field. The emphasis was on the team, not the individual. This is a story about the magic of a small-town baseball field in rural Mississippi, but it could be anywhere. It is about the boys who learned how to become a team from a man who was not much more than a boy himself.
It is, also, in some small way, a lesson in how children can be color-blind, and how dreams always stay in your heart.
And, as with all good stories, some of it is even true.
About the Author
Dennis Hudson is a Mississippi native, a broadcasting veteran of 35 years, who developed a passion for the game of baseball at a very early age. Although his skills never quite measured up to his expectations, his devotion to the game was a constant. Royal Blue is his first novel.
