About the Book
If poetry is truly the window to the soul, then this collection offers the reader a glimpse into the sacred, inner self of author David Kim Winslow. This volume is a sample of more than 35 years of his poetry, compiled by his family in recognition of how his writing has touched so many people. David has struggled with mental health disorders since his teenage years, and has processed these challenges through poetry, art, and music. In so doing, he has raised public awareness of mental illness, and given a voice to the often forgotten and dismissed members of families and communities who struggle with mental health disorders. His voice is lucid, and his message poignant. It is full of wisdom, and it needs to be heard. David’s faith permeates his writings which reflect the love of his Heart, the ponderings of his Mind, and the prayers of his Soul.
About the Author
David Winslow was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The son of an Air Force Colonel, he lived throughout the United States and in Germany. The tragic death of his older sister while he was quite young affected him profoundly. David’s search for meaning throughout his high school years was evident in his involvement with vocal and drama groups, and through his music and poetry. He earned a full scholarship to study music at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Not unlike many in his generation, he struggled with the cultural issues of the early 1970’s. He left college and traveled across the country. His creativity developed through his struggle with mental illness that took years to diagnose. His ability to cope with those disorders took even longer. He eventually received professional help that rooted him in Hays Kansas where he resides with his wife of 13 years, Doris.
