About the Book
This story, Under the feathers, tells of the courageous, remarkable journey of a young couple from Odessa, Russia, fleeing religious persecution, to the freedom of Canada. The hardship of Peter and Mary was shared by many immigrants to Canada in the late 1890’s for the hope of a better life in the vast acres of Saskatchewan, then known as the Northwest Territories. From the 21 children born to this young couple, Christine, was destined to birth eight children, and the fifth born, Marlene Collins, writes this dramatic story in the hopes to illuminate the valiant efforts of self reliance and faith.
About the Author
This is the story of a remarkable woman; one whose glowing faith shines through her life. After her first marriage failed, she was courted by a sturdy Dutchman, Mac Traas, who served in the Dutch resistance. I was honoured to officiate at their wedding in 1984. I know and love both Mac and Marlene well and count them as loyal friends. The story that Marlene tells is about family; tragedy and joy, sickness and health. She is a woman of strong faith, an irrepressible optimist and is just a most delightful woman. God is good! Reverent Bernard Warren
