It has been said, “Life is but a dash between 2 dates. Life & death.” Some of us are sprinters. Some of us are marathoners. Whatever your pace may be, the two dates are indeed inevitable. Between them are our shares of journeys. We may venture to places we’ve always dreamed of being. Or perhaps you will go to places you never dreamed you’d find yourself. There are mountains & there are valleys. Through all the trails of life we take, it is how we lived that is most remembered. As you read the pages of this book, you will get an exclusive look into a life full of high’s & low’s. What builds a man? What shapes his character? What motivates him? You will find truly that Michael Anderson Sr. was built to last. The vicissitudes of his life will lead you to wonder, “How did he hold on in the hurricanes? How did he make it through the storms?” A storm is defined by Webster as an atmospheric disturbance manifested in strong winds accompanied by rain, snow, or other precipitation and often by thunder and lightning. One could describe the river of tears & the moaning cries of people in his life who love him as the proof & sounds of the storms. Another definition is a violent, sudden attack on a fortified place. He made it through the storms because before the foundation of the world, he was already equipped to handle them. Though it would not be revealed to him for many years. There was a purpose in the storms. His children & grandchildren are visible evidence that he has made his mark on the world. But perhaps the best way to define his character is by the countenance of his graceful wife June. Michael Anderson Sr. has traveled a long way. Not just in distance through miles from Baltimore to California, but also in the space from then to now. Three times he OD’d, yet death could not hold him. The hell life tried to offer him could not contain him. The only scars left are those that are yet for him to write about. He began this journey as a sprinter. By the grip of God’s grace, his tempo has been decelerated to a marathoner. He’s still in the race. He just has a slower pace. Because of his determination and mission, he will finish and further defy the odds that were staked against him nearly 3 decades ago. God has imbued this man with an awesome gift. It is through the unction of the Holy Spirit that he is able to portray his thoughts so well. Through the words he writes, he is before you completely transparent. These poems tell a tale of the darkest and brightest days Michael Anderson Sr. has seen thus far. They will remind you. Hold you. Alert you and even captivate you. What we hope the words will do is encourage and inspire you. As the ripple effects from your tears begin to settle, whom do you see in the reflection? Daddy? Momma? Sister? Brother? Uncle? Neighbor?
