About the Book
“The Job” is a fictional short story written by J. D. Billingsley. It’s the story of four would-be hardened criminals and their wacky and zany interactions amongst themselves. They apparently form a gang after being released from prison, and have decided to return to a life crime. The narrator and gang leader, introduces each of his confreres to the reader, gives a brief history of each one’s life; and tells why each one is referred to by his colorful and bizarre nickname.
These four gang members meet on this one day to review and rehearse a bank robbing “job” that they have been planning for several months. As the story moves along, readers may begin to wonder if maybe these four characters are not very adept at executing criminal activities. By their actions and interactions, every indicator should suggest to the reader that maybe they’re just “wannabes.” As the story reaches its capricious ending, the author hopes that every reader who has even a remote sense of humor will be smiling, laughing; or “rolling around on the floor.”
