About the Author

Serenity James is a pseudonym as all of the names within this story, to protect the identities of those involved. The writer and her husband had been foster parents for a period of nine years, and had been named Foster Parents of the Year during that time with their Child Placement Agency. The writer additionally holds a BA in Social Work, has worked with special needs children, and adults in various positions for an additional 10 years. Her experience with foster children began in earnest with her marriage to her husband who had been a foster youth for eight years. It was through this relationship that she became critically aware of the plight of those who have lived in out of home placements, and the lasting scars that are a part of their personality from the losses they endure. Two plus Two is One became a journey of what can happen when both sets of parents choose to open themselves to the needs of the children.
