About the Book

Richard Nicholls
“I find the autobiography easy reading. However, what is even more exciting is that the author has added life to his story by recreating the environment and circumstances in which each event took place – as if they were occurring at the time of his writing.”       –Weusi Tafawa

“More than a million thanks for patiently sharing your life’s journey, including your joy and pain. Your never-ending love will continue to serve as a source of inspiration and as an eye-opener to our windows to the future.”
     –Lawrence Nicholls

“I am amazed that my grandfather has been able to express his thoughts so clearly at the age of ninety one. You are truly blessed.”     –Malika Tafawa

“After reading my grandfather’s account of his life, I now know the source of my courage, strength, enthusiasm and sense of adventure. Thanks grandad.”      –Omolara Tafawa Lyte

“This book is captivating as it tells of the sacrifices made by a man who was working towards the success of all his children."    –Nkasia Nicholls

About the Author

Richard Nicholls, born to Louisa Holder and Richard Nicholls, was born at Bachelor’s Adventure, a small village on the East Coast, in the county of Demerara, in the Republic of Guyana. Richard is a carpenter who took pride in constructing his home, located at Bachelor’s Adventure. In March 1942, Richard accepted the Lord at a gospel crusade held at the Pilgrim Holiness Church, Bachelor’s Adventure. At the age of seventy-eight, Richard was inspired to write his autobiography primarily to recount his life experiences, provide a snapshot of history as seen through his eyes, and leave a legacy of “his place in life” for his nine children, twenty-three grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren so that they can add strength to and improve upon the family tradition. His father—the son of Victoria and Benjamin Nicholls—was a gold digger and a diamond seeker, working mainly in the upper Essequibo region of Guyana (then British Guiana) prior to independence from Great Britain. Richard first attended the Bachelor’s Adventure Roman Catholic School. His schoolmaster was W. A. Philadelphia from Friendship Village, East Coast, Demerara. After a courtship with Drucilla Elvira Pyle, which lasted for one year and ten months, on February 7, 1946, Richard bravely marched up the aisle of the very Pilgrim Holiness Church, Bachelor’s Adventure, where he answered to the vow, “I will.” The matrimonial ceremony was performed by Rev. J. T. Muller. Drucilla and Richard were blessed with ten children, of whom the first, a boy, Rudolph Alphonso, was short-lived. Their nine children—Lauretta, Vilma, Lawrence, Trevlyn, Linton, Cynthia, Jennifer, Valerie, and Brentnol—have blessed them with twenty-three grandchildren. Unfortunately, their youngest daughter, Dr. Valerie London, departed this world on March 30, 2005, at the early age of forty-five. Valerie is truly missed by her family. May her soul rest in peace! His wife, Drucilla Nicholls, quietly left this earth on July 25, 1997. Now at the age of ninety-four, Richard resides at his residence in Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast Demerara, Guyana.
