About the Book

The "Euroaquilo" was the dreaded wind current responsible for the wreck of the Apostle Paul's ship. Get acquainted with the ship's Captain, Marcus Hippalus, a swashbuckler whose inner hangups push forward the events that lead up to this tragedy. Marcus' life is a story of seamanship, war, defeat, and character disintegration. But it is also a redemptive story. In the trend of the famous poem, "The Hound of Heaven," by Francis Thompson, one prevailing meaning underlies the whole narrative, namely, pursuit by God. A surprizing ending gathers up all the tangled threads of meaning into one satisfying cloth.

About the Author

The author is a former military chaplain, retirement center director, and pastor. He has two other books: Banishing Fear From Your Life and Good News for the Lowlanders. Now a free-lance author, he makes his home in Colorado. To write this novel, he visited Alexandria, Crete, Malta, and the French and English coasts, sailing in and out of their shores as Paul's ship would have done. He also researched a little-known critique of the Acts story by a 19th-century scholar with first-hand knowledge of the ancient lore of sail-shipping, much of which is now lost.
