About the Author

Betty Stallings-Murray lives in New York. She is the mother of four and grandmother of nine. Just retired she is a former kindergarten teacher in the New York City public schools. “Ten Is for Tendai” is her second of a series of books based on her family experiences. In each of her books she shares her own family experiences. As an advocate for literacy the author hopes to encourage children and families to record their own memories, by writing and drawing their own memories. While in the classroom she has learned children love, and is attracted to beautiful colors, therefore she uses markers as her medium. Betty Stallings-Murray is the recipient of an Ezra Jack Keats Foundation grant and numerous other awards for outstanding service to the community and education; the founder of the “Spirit Of Sisterhood;” the creator of the widely traveled exhibition “Come to the Table;” celebrating women, and the author/illustrator of “Grandma Buddy’s House.”
