About the Author

Veronica Mitchell has lived in Hunterdon County since 1963 in a circa 1752 farmhouse. She and her husband, Robert, raised their two daughters in this rural area. Her interest in the history of Hunterdon began when she researched her house for historic designation. Veronica’s love of quilting and interest in history joined together in late 1986 when she became actively involved in The Heritage Quilt Project’s documentation of New Jersey quilts. The New Jersey Project became the motivation for her to do a regional study of quilts made in Hunterdon County, where she resides. This study resulted in the writing of Herstory. She is a member of two quilt guilds in the County as well as the State Quilt Guild of New Jersey and the American Quilt Study Group. Veronica’s interest in traditional quilts continues but she has expanded her quiltmaking to include contemporary designs.
