About the Book

In life, we all think about the “what ifs.” R. Wyche Farthing’s life unfolded too perfectly. He felt fortunate, but lacking. It was all the way it was supposed to be, but there was no adventure. “A Bite from the Apple” is a story about a man who feels he is missing something; a story about the old adage, “be careful what you wish for.” Wyche searched for and found his adventure, but at what price? Was the prize worth the sacrifice? Did the consequences of Wyche’s actions warrant the benefits? Would he do it all again? Was he a fool attempting to capture something he only perceived necessary? Should he have more thoroughly considered what result his impulsive behavior would have on his wife and family? These are the questions the reader must address as they delve into the page turning drama “A Bite from the Apple.” They will also be thrust into an underground, opulent, salacious playground enjoyed by the financially privileged elite in New York City under the landscape of a still raw post 9/11 world.

Wyche Farthing’s Wall Street, Ivy League success, beautiful family and idyllic lifestyle suggested happiness, but in effect, masked discontentment. His foray into the unknown brings him into the orbit of the free spirited Melissa Hill, a natural beauty coming to the “Big Apple” seeking her own internal satisfaction as a result of an unusual sexual idiosyncrasy derived from a bizarre childhood experience. Their liaison propels Wyche into an underground lifestyle experienced and enjoyed by the “Titans of The Street,” willing to risk uncertainty, peril and exposure for the thrill of perceived pleasure and contentment.

When we do something stupid in life, we all wish we could take it back, but we can’t. Wyche Farthing becomes the epitome of this scenario. Instead of evaluating his state and reconsidering his actions, he plows on motivated by his own self centered desires, jeopardizing his family’s life and future.

Wyche and Melissa’s foray into the dangerous, unforgiving core of “the Apple” intertwine them with Heinrich Kruger, a heinous, German billionaire with his own agenda and issues. The newly formed, but ill-fated group morph into a web of murder and mayhem, resulting in Kruger wanting the snafu covered up at all costs. With Kruger’s lethal assassin, Manfred Stoltz in unrelenting pursuit, Wyche spirals into disarray, becoming desperate and on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Ironically, the only person with the power to save him is the one he has been betraying throughout his unsettling quest; his loyal wife, Jessica.
