About the Book
Jolie Carstairs is an accomplished painter, but no one knows it but her. Kept in virtual isolation by her father, she has no skills to support herself. When he dies, he leaves her with just two options: Marry a man she’s never met, or face life on her own.
When Matt Chambers agrees to her fathers outrageous will, in order to get the money his mother needs for an operation, Jolie knows she’s been given a reprieve. She now has one year to learn how to be an adult.
Going through her father’s belongings, Jolie discovers that, not only has he not been throwing her paintings away as he’d told her, he was actually selling them through an exclusive gallery. His explanation for why the artist was never seen was that Jolie was mentally challenged and could do nothing but paint.
Jolie knows that she must clear her name before she can build her reputation as an artist, and takes on the task of informing everyone that purchased one of her paintings of the truth.
Making new friends—something she’s never had before—opens Jolie’s eyes to a whole new level of living, and gives her paintings a new direction. It also gives her hope that she’ll be able to make it on her own once the year she has with Matt is over.
Through it all, Matt proves to be a source of support and encouragement, challenging Jolie to embrace the world in ways she never dreamt she could. Falling in love with him was inevitable, even though she knew it was futile. The most she could hope for was an amicable divorce, and the possibility of his continued friendship.
