About the Book
Tell Me No Lies Summary Alicia, (Allie) Hansen is convinced that Houston’s Police Department is mistaken. Her sister, Jeri did not commit suicide. She was murdered. But nothing Allie says or does will make them change their report. Until she walks into her sister’s condo, is attacked and barely escapes with her life, she didn’t know what to do. Now she does. She goes to a Private Investigator who has been highly recommended by her boss, Blake Baxter and asks for help. Nick McKay doesn’t want to take on another client. He’s worried about his brother, Joey, an HPD cop, who is on an unauthorized undercover investigation of his own. And Nick is afraid that Joey is in over his head and in trouble. But Nick can’t turn down the woman who is hiding her beauty beneath ill-fitting clothes, auburn hair that is piled on the top of her head in a tight bun and a look in her emerald green eyes that intrigue him. She is a beautiful woman in disguise and Nick is fascinated. Another break-in in her own apartment puts Allie’s roommate in the hospital and in a coma. Allie is devastated; knows it’s her fault and doesn’t know why this is happening. Hasn’t she led a normal, almost boring life up until now? All of a sudden someone wants her dead. A second attempt on her life convinces Nick that Allie needs protection. Since he trusts no one except himself to do the job, he takes her to his house where he can watch over her. HPD is still convinced that none of the break-ins or attempts on her life has anything to do with Jeri’s death. Allie knows better. So does Nick. While Nick is doing his best to keep Allie safe and at the same time find out what could have been the cause of Jeri’s death, his brother Joey is busy following his own lead in an undercover investigation into the death of his friend and investigative reporter, Jeff Lexington. He has Vince Catarno, security chief for billionaire, Cyrus Ross under surveillance. Joey manipulates circumstances that lead Vince to hire him as one of his security people. There, Joey is privy to undercurrents of political intrigue as Cyrus does all in his power to buy, bribe or steal the presidential nomination for his son, Cameron. Cyrus wants the White House more than his son and will do anything to get it. Joey wonders if that includes murder. And if it does, how does his friend fit into the picture? When Vince Catarno slashes the throat of one of HPD’s snitches, Joey is so disgusted he wants to call it quits. He hasn’t found a clue that Vince was involved in his friend’s death. At least Joey can put him away for this one. He decides instead, to give it a few more days. From her earliest memories, Allie’s parents have told her that her sister, Jeri was wild and would get in trouble. (Her apparent suicide seemed to prove their point.) They were determined that Allie wasn’t going to follow in her footsteps. So she didn’t. She dressed the opposite of her flamboyant sister and instead of standing up to her parents, allowed them to regulate her life, until three years ago when she left home, came to Houston and went to work for Blake Baxter, attorney-at-law. It was the wisest decision she’d ever made. At the time, her sister, Jeri, exulted in Allie’s newfound freedom. Only Allie wasn’t interested in partying and dating along with her sister, instead, she found a friend in co-worker, Margie Campbell. Together, they share an apartment and led a sedate and unexceptional life. Until now. Now someone wants Allie dead and is doing everything they can, including putting a bomb in her car to make it happen. And Nick can’t put a handle on why. The only thing he learns about Jeri Hansen is that she was a beautiful, fun-loving woman who liked to have a good time. He can find nothing in her past that would lead to murder and certainly nothing to explain the attempts on Allie’s life. It’s driving him crazy. While picking up Jeri’s clothes that have been thrown on the floor in disarray
