About the Book
After the disintegration of the USSR the events of September 11, 2001 changed the geopolitical image and significance of Central Asia and Afghanistan. For the period which followed after the commencement of the anti-terrorist operation in Afghanistan in 2001 drastic alterations took place both in Tajikistan and Afghanistan. The new political structure has been firmly rooting in Tajikistan, the final peaceful regularization of the inter-Tajik conflict has been the reality of today. Consolidation of political forces has been intensifying its strength; timid but assured steps being aimed at building up a secular democratic state. We witness an inception of peaceful creation. They carry into effect grand geostrategic projects on establishment of infrastructure of external economic links, construction of gigantic power stations – all that ensures favorable conditions for extension of political, external economic, cultural ties with regional states, including Afghanistan. Since the commencement of the anti-terrorist operation the Taliban and Al-Qaida movements were neutralized on this long-suffering earth. The Summit in Bonn laid foundations for the formation of coalitional government. Being supported by world community the Afghan people got into the stride of building up the grounds of its state – they adopted the Constitution of the country, elected the President and the Parliament (Loya Jirga). The state started a post-war recovery of the country looking forward to resolving urgent social and economic problems – uplifting of the most important units of national economy, clearing the country’s territory from mines, return of refugees with providing habitation and jobs for them; they commenced to establish a public service and enforcement frameworks, it is going on with the struggle against terrorism and extremism, radical forces. How were those political events in Afghanistan moving, what strategic goals were pursued by ATO participants, what is the plight of economy in Afghanistan and what are the potential availabilities of the Republic of Tajikistan and the states as a whole in view of post-conflict reconstruction of Afghanistan?
