About the Book
Denial certainly serves a purpose. It keeps us together when we might otherwise fall apart, but it comes at a great price. That price is true peace or fulfillment while here on earth. While life is not meant to be lived without struggle, for it is our suffering that builds our character and prepares us for eternity, God wants us to be happy. Similar to Elizabeth Gilbert who wrote “Eat, Pray, Love”, Noel Ashekian stands naked before her readers as she presents a personal account of how she relies on God to heal herself and her failing marriage. Like a wounded animal gathering its herd around it, Noel first reaches out to her family in a letter she writes to them explaining what ails her while revealing some of the instability in her marriage. Her letter is meant to garner support as she begins her arduous quest for the truth – the truth about herself and the truth about her failing marriage – and for answers. The book becomes a personal account of how Noel relies on God to get as close as possible to the truth. She also begins to understand that God has given us each other to rely on. That he encourages us to seek answers from each other, from people from all walks of life, and to share our stories with others, even the most painful, intimate moments so that we can learn and grow from each other. Noel incorporates not only her family in her quest, but many others, some of whom are mentioned in her book. Her book reads like a memoir in some ways as it details experiences dating back to when she was a young child, but it is mainly a personal account of what happened to her over the course of a few months. Although a short-time frame, the events altered her life. Through her examination, investigation, and exploration, Noel concludes that there is no absolute truth to anything, but understands that we can get as close as possible to the truth, to being truly authentic with ourselves and with others through God because God is the truth.
