About the Book

This book is written not so much about the life of an Incest victim/survivor, but about those different people that the survivor comes into contact with at the different stages of her/his life. It explains what the observer might see in their relationship with the victim, and what they can do about it. I use the term “Other Victim” to describe those people associated with, and close to the survivor, whose role of friend, classmate or spouse has been altered by the very closeness with the survivor. Altered in that they are in the presence of an emotionally (and sexually, as they will learn during the time of their relationship) damaged young person and instead of just being themselves and relating in a normal, traditional mode, they must assimilate to the mood and behavior of this hurt person.

About the Author

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York in 1942, I traveled to many states and countries while serving twenty-one years in the U.S. Army. In my last five years I was stationed in New Haven, Connecticut, and took advantage of the G.I. Bill and attended Southern Connecticut State University graduating with a Master’s degree in Family Therapy. I opened up a private practice in 1985 in Norman, Oklahoma, the home of my wife Deborah. In 1992, I founded the Family Therapy Institute. It was over the past twenty-three years of working with couples and families that I have gathered the inspiration to write the book you see before you.
