About the Book

Courtesy of Andrew Carnegie is the fictional account of a small, racially-mixed town that grows into a coalition of caring for each other.

Like a microcosm of the world, fresh insights intercept experience for the minister or teacher; the grocer or the pharmacist; the judge and sheriff – citizens, changing them and their town.

The name Levi was chosen, for it was the name of one of the twelve tribes of Israel, a priesthood of tent-dwellers. Used to infer the spiritual and natural integration with the actual, still common to the psyche of the Cheyenne, it emphasizes the wholeness and authenticity of Native American experience.

Any resemblance of characters or incidents in the story is unintentional and entirely coincidental.

About the Author

Dorothea Paulks live in Oklahoma where she manages her farm, writes and paints. Retirement from career in teaching language arts and in hospital nursing freed time to write. She has published five books at Xlibris since retiring. Sulphur Matches is her fourth novel and her first juvenile book. Adapted from the adult novel, courtesy of Andrew Carnegie, it focuses on the six-year-old Crissy instead of adult characters. She has been writing and publishing since the late sixties: clapbooks, shortstories, articles and one play which Pueblo Press published in 1980. She received her MA in writing from UCO in 1974.
