About the Book

Choices is set on the West Side of Chicago in the Austin neighborhood during the 1970s and journeys the life of two Afro American girls who forged a friendship and bond at the age of fourteen and lasted over twenty years. A bond, in spite of family misgivings, that could not be broken. We watch them grow through adolescence and early adulthood, embracing their challenges and applauding their victories. Yvonne, a fun-loving girl who fights the feeling of alienation from her family and relies on the support of a man filled with insecurities to bring her happiness. And Pam, who was raised in a two-parent home and battled with her sister for the love of their father—searched for love in the wrong places. Together these two women lean on each other for support, the love between them will last beyond a lifetime.
