About the Book

The Starkind have searched the Milky Way galaxy for other life for 50,000 years. The climactic discovery of a sentient civilization at the edge of Spacetime 3 by the Starkind exposed the moral dilemma confronting a quantitatively and qualitatively superior civilization when it encounters one of profoundly lesser technical and cultural status. The cultural and philosophical values of and mythological legends of the Starkind are interwoven into the story, especially their devotion to Kal, a lifelong practice of psychological centering. The remarkable science of the Universe Ship and life extension technologies for cosmic travel are developed in very sound engineering descriptions for both technical and non technical readers. The fleet Commander’s journal develops this moral dilemma: Is this search ever morally justified, especially when there is a dominant life form, such as the Starkind that could, without malice, inadvertently snuff out the lesser life form, such as Humankind? It brings into question 50 millennia of exploration without clear directives of action consistent with what might be found. As long as the Starkind didn’t find that which it sought, there was little with which it had to concern itself. Starkind discovers that the most serious internal conflict would be the preservation of this alien life form as it was quite possibly the only other one in the galaxy besides them. The very interaction, along with colonization, could lead quickly to an irretrievable extinction. Six dialogues among the unusual among the unusual characters in the story line decide the issue and reveal the equally unusual philosophies of each culture. Danto Kalishan, the Starkind Fleet Commander, Novon Parna, the beautiful Colony Marshal, and Ben Lavona the ascetic Kabbalist, interact to tell the story. Each character role is developed in depth to reveal the essential goodness inherent in these highly developed spiritual intellects. Two albino children of exceptional intellect enliven the story line with humor, honesty and precociousness that only young people can provide. Unexpectedly a Jenjo Master, named Dardo Kal arises from a forgotten mythological past of the Starkind and injects a secret villainy into the plans for Earth’s renaissance. An unexpected ending results when the plot is discovered. The reader should come away with a profound reverence and anxiety for the place called Mother Earth and by extension the Universe that surrounds it. In the end, love and family ambitions, both overt and secret, are realized as the complex lives of two intertwine couples find an unusual and happy ending. Jerrold Winger has woven into this story interesting speculations of technology and psychology in an age of exploration in the Milky Way Galaxy 5000 years from now. The origins of the book lie in a 1978 hand written journal following several nights of dreams.

About the Author

His published books include the technical primer, Small Boats - Mechanics and Materials (2007), produced for an accident reconstruction company doing marine investigations. In his publication The ÓDelta of Technology (2007) the author investigated a 22 year history of the country’s top one hundred spenders in R&D and demonstrated a correlation between R&D investment and profits. Mysterious Entanglement - Science and Religion (2011) offers new insights into the relationship between science and religion. The author supports the hypothesis that it is our destiny to find our place in the Universe and reveals the Gap of Uncertainty that exists in the two world views of science and religion. Jerrold Winger was a former Director of Technology for the iconic Energizer Battery Program. He received a lifetime achievement award in 1997 called the Energizer Excellence Award, for his leadership in Technology and Quality. Mr. Winger received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University.
