About the Book

“Mamá Cuéntame Porqué Viniste!” scaffolds the telling of the story of why a Latinoamerican mother would take on the journey of migration. In a colorful, heartfelt and developmentally sensitive way this book helps mothers to tell their young children about their origins, their dreams and how their unconditional love brought them to the United States in the hopes of creating the life of safety, peace, promise and abundance any parent would want to give to his child. This book explores the psychological themes and experiences of immigrant mothers introduced by the author in her first book, “Mamá Cuéntame Porqué Viniste!”

About the Author

Silvia Juarez-Marazzo, 2014 Connecticut Infant Mental Health Association Jane C. Bourns Award recipient, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Nationally Accredited Adlerian Psychoanalyst. In 2010, Silvia discovered, through the deeply transformative experience at the Infant Parent Mental Health Fellowship at the University of Massachusetts, led by Dr. Ed Tronick, that creating "cuentos," or short illustrated stories for children, can help scaffold the integration of the Latino-American immigrant mothers’ experiences about their journey into motherhood as a new avenue for both self-discovery and therapeutic action. She published her first cuento, "Mamá Cuéntame Cómo Viniste!” in 2013. This book creates a dialogue that helps mothers remember, share and embrace their untold stories with their children. "Mamá Cuéntame Porqué Viniste!” expands on these mothers’ stories of courage, love and hope.
