About the Book

When Martin Miller realizes that he has doubts about going on to seminary and becoming a Lutheran minister, he joins the Navy as a seaman. Tumultuous events follow. While he is adjusting to the rigors of navy life and searching for new meaning in life, his torment and passion hurl him into confrontations with tough, seagoing men and into irresistible relationships with beautiful women. But gradually, Martin finds answers as he journeys from port to port, heading "into the mouth of the beast," the infamous December 7 Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, and his life is changed in surprising ways that he never imagined possible.
