MOTHER, the more I learn about you, The more I respect you, The more I clearly see you, too. I read between the lines and see The sacrifice and pain, The hard work and rain. The hope, love and joy, Meaningful lives of each girl and boy. I see through the layers that go back in time And how those layers made you tick and rhyme. Mother, the more I learn about you, The more I will miss you But will carry forward your memory and traditions, too. ON THIS JULY 4th, let us think about our very core! Are we grateful for: Freedoms we share, The military and burdens they bear? The right to bear arms, To protect our families from harm? Battles and Wars fought, Compromises and Peace Treaties sought? Presidents, elected officials and laws, Courts, government buildings and historic halls? Independence fought for and won, A country where we can live, work, travel and have fun? Religious freedoms to read, study and pray, Any where, any time, any day? Educational opportunities that learning can bring, The sports, the arts and music to sing? Our flag of red, white and blue, Our National Anthem sung often too? So on this 4th of July 2019, We pause to remember what all of this means. May the God in whom we trust, Receive our thankfulness--a must!! KALEIDOSCOPE, A RAINBOW OF LOVE AND HOPE Love was BLUE! For us, two. You in Vietnam, so far away. Me wondering, praying for safety each day. Sadness and tears. Hopes and fears. Love was YELLOW! My returning soldier fellow! Our future was suddenly sunny and bright. Prayers answered, we walked in new light. Love was GREEN! Years were lean. Newness like spring, Our life together did bring. Apartment, houses, yards, Sports and golf games parred. Church, careers, family fun, Moving around for different climate's sun. Love was RED! Our passion fed! Keeping it alive, you ask how? Those hugs and kisses--Wow! Love was PURPLE! We tried to follow a good example. Jennifer and Jill arrived on the scene. Linda was Ron's royal Queen. Love was BROWN! Life was up and down. Teen, then college years. Weddings with bubbles and cheers Love was BLACK! But love and hope never lacked. Infertility, surgeries. Jobs end, time mends. Loved ones lost, feelings tossed. Life tests, straining the best. Love was WHITE! Seeing new light! Grandbabies born. No more forlorn. Bodies healing bring new meaning To extended family praising. Love was ORANGE! The color for fall. Grandchildren bring joy, having a ball. Baby years of cuddles and hugs. Childhood days of smiling cute mugs. Teen years of sporting events and college choices. Learning to drive and grandparent voices. The colors of our married life, Handsome husband, beautiful wife, Make up a KALEIDOSCOPE, OUR RAINBOW OF LOVE AND HOPE! Happy 51st Anniversary.
