About the Book

This memoir highlights Mr. Kramer’s first trip to the Peruvian Amazon in 1963. He had left Law School and took a moment in time to visit friends in Lima, Peru and to explore the Peruvian Amazon before returning to Bellows Falls, Vermont to teach High School English. The story includes a three week trip on Ucayali River from Pucallpa to Iquitos. On this voyage he met a new friend, Leo, from Melbourne, Australia, who was going into the interior to search for gold. The 2 of them parted each other in Iquitos and went their separate ways. For Mr. Kramer, this” get a way” was the beginning of a marked change in his life. He was able to look inwardly and contemplate his past and look into his future. In brief, he was growing up!
