About the Book
A kea is the world’s only alpine parrot, and is found only in New Zealand, living mainly in the mountains of the South Island. It is as large as a cat, has olive green feathers, but is bright orange under its wings. The kea is a very intelligent and cheeky bird. It is also a natural clown. Unfortunately for visitors and campers, the kea is known to be rather destructive, ripping mirrors, wipers and rubber off cars, and tearing open tents and bags. But this doesn’t stop people wanting to visit them. Ryan wrote and illustrated this story when he was thirteen, and his father, Paul, adopted it for a kids book, later adding a few more pages to complete the story.
