About the Book

This book is a collection of true stories revolving around a group of Rhodesian National servicemen from intake 147 and about our experiences in the army. It is also about a journey of self discovery and reconnecting with old comrades. The original intent was to preserve the stories of my life in Rhodesia for my children but has developed into a means of helping to heal the mental scaring that the traumas of war have inflfl icted on us and to understand the impact post traumatic stress disorder has on us and our wives and families.


About the Author

David Freemantle was born 14 November 1956 in Que Que, Rhodesia. He grew up in various railway towns, and attended 6 different schools. In 1972, he started an apprenticeship on the Rhodesia railways. In 1975, David volunteered to do his National Service with Intake 47. Following 2 years of service, David furthered his qualifi cations and married Karen Casson in 1979. They had 2 sons, Nathan and Angus. In 1982 the family immigrated to Australia and had 2 more sons, Alister and Kurt. 3 of his 4 sons are married, and David and Karen are proud Grandparents of 4. They now reside in Perth WA, working as the parents of 3 foster daughters.
