About the Book
David and Anne Masson are forced by a sudden thunderstorm to take refuge in a cave while on a picnic in the Rocky Mountains. Within the cave they find awaiting them the Ark containing the Covenant, and Moses, the patriarch who brought the Commandments down from Mt. Sinai. More than three thousand years old, he has been granted longevity and some extraordinary abilities because he and a few others like him have been given the task of guiding humanity up the spiral of civilization. He asks the couple to take on their own task. Sinai, the true Mt. Sinai not the one called by that name today, shall rise from the earth, and once it has risen, God shall again make His Will known to the world. But first the Ark and Covenant must be returned to their place of origin, and that Return must be designed to generate a universal spiritual awakening that will prepare mankind for what is to come.
Moses carries them on a psychic spiritual journey during which they experience the Will and Love of God. They come to realize that the future of human civilization may depend upon the successful completion of the Return. Mankind is at a critical point in its history where it is in danger of falling into the abyss of de-civilization. Will the young couple accept the obligations of the Return, and if they do so, will they survive the attempts by the forces of evil to destroy them and the sacred artefacts that will be in their care?
The novel is not only a tale of action but also an allegory dealing with the classic opposition of good and evil and the conflict within each of us and in our society when we must decide between the hard road upward and the easy road down. While examining that conflict, the story addresses some difficult questions: What is the nature of freedom and of right and wrong; what should be our relationship with God; how can we reach for Him; and what are our obligations as individuals and as members of a society.
