About the Book
And the Meek Shall Inherit the Earth is the tale of the culmination of the struggle between God and Devil. It chronicles the final steps of the Devil’s effort at ascension and details how, through the power of doubt, the Devil makes his final attempt to seize the power he feels he is destined to have. A dark tale of intrigue, belief, and discovery, And the Meek Shall Inherit the Earth is a story that will captivate and disturb.
Detailing the end of this eternal conflict, And the Meek Shall Inherit the Earth follows the Devil’s attempt and involves the “assistance” of certain key individuals in his struggle to gain control over mankind. Doubt is the Devil’s main weapon, and the story details how mankind’s inability to reconcile the rationale for their beliefs combined with general human inadequacies leads to the downfall of God. As the intensity builds, the reader also gets to know the Devil himself, a character just as fallible as man.
The first of the novel’s four parts explores the world of Jared Stone, one of the Devil’s main “weapons” in his battle for power. By influencing his life, the subtleties of his mind, and the people he interacts with, Jared becomes a conduit for the Devil’s gospel. Jared is a man driven by his possession, content to do nothing but follow the “craving” within him. He travels the country, working, albeit unwittingly, as the Devil’s messenger. As he lives a life manipulated by the Devil, Jared preaches the power of the meek and their impending domination over the Earth. As he works to fulfill his mission, Jared leaves a trail of victims, all of whom have been shown “the truth” of the Devil’s word.
The second section details J.P. Dersen and his fall from grace, as he becomes the next pawn in the Devil’s ultimate plan. Yet unlike Jared, J.P. is more an everyman, not unlike someone you would encounter in your everyday life. J.P. is married, has a good albeit boring job, friends, and a loving family. His life is not a quest to fulfill some hidden agenda, more a study in disillusionment that culminates in his submission to the Devil. Here the impact lies in the fact that J.P. , a man no different from anyone else, also falls victim to the Devil, thus becoming another disciple like Jared.
Episode three introduces Dena Henderson, a woman who becomes the lynch pin in the Devil’s plan. A strong woman of both means and conviction, Dena is swayed by nothing other than her own desires and goals. Yet by influencing her life both directly and indirectly, the Devil is able to spread his word throughout the world. Dena becomes a pawn like the others, although her movements are more subtle and divisive. By searching for the truth and the true meaning behind belief, Dena becomes the Devil’s greatest weapon. As his word infiltrates society, slowly but surely his position becomes more secure, and the fate of mankind is called into question.
The last, and perhaps most significant segment, reveals the final thrust of the Devil’s attack and its inevitable conclusion. Man’s struggle with good and evil becomes secondary to his battle with his own doubts, and the final conclusion is the culmination man’s endless role as a pawn of God and the Devil.
About the Author
Raised in Bedford, Massachusetts, Adam Tobey studied at the University of Rochester, the University of Maryland, and SUNY Albany before settling in Woodstock, New York. He currently works in the concert industry. An avid fan of music, film, and forensic pathology fiction, Adam uses these diverse interests as the backdrop for And the Meek Shall Inherit the Earth. And the Meek Shall Inherit the Earth is Adams first novel. The books concept was born from the authors own discontent. During his post-graduate work in College Park, Maryland, he grew increasingly restless and dissatisfied with both his surroundings and educational environment. Perhaps as a therapeutic measure or simply as an escape, Adam decided to begin writing about peoples dissatisfaction and their innate ability to hold a higher power responsible for their own misery. After months of soul searching, the story came to life. Conspiring with friends, family, and colleagues, Adam initially wrote the book simply to prove he could. Receiving praise and encouragement from those around him, he eventually decided to publish it. Adam plans to extend And the Meek Shall Inherit the Earth into a two book series.
