About the Book

Pines - a small town in the southern Colorado foothills was as vacant as dozens of other small towns during the early years of the Great Depression. Isolated from the rest of civilization, by design half a century before, people came to live there that were ‘different’ - and they wanted to be left alone. They came to Pines to find solace amongst people like themselves. By 1932 there were only two people left - the town’s one time teacher and nurse, and a part- time mechanic who runs the service station on the highway.

No one ever could leave Pines, unless they were willing to be the raisins in someone else’s white bread. But everyone had left - some with help. The two remaining residents knew they had to stay.  There were still too many unanswered questions that past events had brought up that needed answering.

In the fall of 1932, a new citizen moves to Pines. A lone traveler, dissatisfied with his reality as were the people left in Pines, and as most of the country was in the midst of the Depression, stopped for a tank of gas, and ended up staying in town. He didn’t stay on purpose - at first - but a bit of curiosity and a heavy snow storm had him stranded in Pines. Once he settled in, he found out that he had some things in common with the two remaining people in town - murderous things - things to get away from.

The past would leave them alone, for the most part, until, one day, enough was enough, and the horrors they once wrought -  to get reality adjusted to their own choosing - would have its turn.

About the Author

John, a native of Denver, Colorado, where he currently resides, has been a practicing musician and teacher for more than two and one half decades. His flare for writing was realized early in his life, when at age eight, he won the ‘Best Story’ award in his elementary school newspaper. His creative talents continued into music, when at the age of thirteen he started his professional music career. John’s music and teaching took precedence for the next several years, but his love of books - especially horror fiction - was never left unattended. He now comes full circle in his creative endeavors, returning to writing, with this offering of “Raisins in the White Bread.”
