About the Book

Brilliant and beautiful attorney Ally Knight falls in love with handsome Ray Sheridan, a client of her firm in Hawaii, at their first meeting.  But he is married and has a newborn baby.  Ray explains that he is separated from his wife, who hates his job because it demands constant travel.  Ally, who firmly believes in now, gives in totally to her feelings.  They spend a few blissful months together, before Ray suddenly leaves her to return to that wife and child.  Ally, heartbroken, marries a fellow attorney on the rebound.  It takes only a short while for her to realize that she does not even like her new husband, with whom she has moved to Boston.

Several years pass.  Suddenly Ray finds Ally again, by calling every law firm listed in the Boston telephone book.  He is now divorced, he says, and sets out assiduously to win back his one true love.  He helps her to voice her genuine feelings about her husband.  Confused, Ally moves out of her husband's house, and takes up residence in an apartment of her own.  For a year Ray commutes from California to Boston, until his always-tender treatment of her finally convinces her to move to his new home in California.

Suddenly, after Ally has been there for only six days, Ray announces that he has received a call from his son's teacher inquiring whether there are problems at home, for his son's grades and behavior have suddenly plummeted.  Ray tells Ally that he has to return home for his son's sake.

Luckily Ally had been hired pre-move by California's largest and most prestigious law firm, based upon her sterling national reputation.  But now she feels bereft, betrayed and abandoned.  Will she ever again be able to give her love, and trust, to another man?
