About the Book

Sketches, Living Without God, is a collection of short stories that presents a view of my half-century of life, and the forces that helped shape it.  The coming of television, the civil rights movement, the war in Vietnam, and, for myself, the central question that ultimately has no definitive answer, yet, by inference, can come tantalizingly close to being proven, the non-existence of the supernatural.

About the Author

LA Bigotona is a first generation Mexican-American who, using a trial and error method, has been learning the craft of writing most of his adult life. Anything that concerns human beings he finds interesting. Especially why people who otherwise consider themselves rational, invoke irrational religious beliefs into their daily lives. As Francis Crick, co-owner of the Nobel prize in medicine, wrote in his book The Astonishing Hypothesis, "Not only do the beliefs of most popular religions contradict each other but, by scientific standards, they are based on evidence so flimsy that only an act of blind faith can make them acceptable. If the members of a church really believe in a life after death, why do they not conduct sound experiments to establish it?" The answer, no doubt, is that while everyone wants to go to heaven, nobody wants to die. People see God only in the astonishing beauty of nature, they don't see Him when they squash a cockroach as they stumble to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
