About the Book

In summary, the United States’ 220 year Democracy (of its 400 year history since the English arrived) is longer than that of the Greeks, the Romans, or the British, the only large ones ever, all European. Two collapsed demoralized under emperors like all past civilizations. The two moderns, of one Christian tradition with durable democratic strength, have been autocraticly led further away from it into decadent empires than people realized. Britain has shrunk. America also follows the Greco-Roman decay steps toward collapsing empire die-offs. One feature has been loss of its original separation of powers in executives and courts. Potentially possible repairs are unlikely, especially in the courts. Other worldwide problems, like population pressure on resources and borders, constrain the future, with many puzzles and issues for traditional people to resolve for survival. This is the third and final part of a three book series. Each may be read separately. In completing the series from HUMAN CREATURES, A BROADER VIEW, through HEADLONG INTO QUICKSAND, THE TALE OF AMERICA TODAY, this book´s topics include: Political dominances, demagogues, lawyers, bar associations, governments, medical/nuclear issues, markets, pollution, comparative civilizations, US/international future.

About the Author

Forty years ago he started looking beneath the surface of America after reading Formation of the Union, Documents from 1774-90. This persisted through a career ranging from youthful farm work, commercial fishing, reporting, technical teaching, Navy, defense research & engineering, to meeting Rietta in UNC graduate school, marrying, & together raising five children. During that experience, Howard researched the four great European descended democracies, the ancient Greek & Roman failures and the longer British & American endurances, for fundamentals to the US founding and later misleading into today's decay. Also for possible repairs through limiting dominating executive and judicial leaders, regaining essentials in education, and reviving for the future the traditional, basicly Christian, democratic colonial heritage, the driving force behind the US foundation and true source of strength for its record 220 year duration. His original long single book is revised into three, of which this is the final volume.
