About the Book

It was the Earth year 2369, and again war faced the children of Earth.  The United Coalition of Earth, formed in the wake of an economic catastrophe in the mid 21st century had expanded to the stars over the last few centuries.  Though many races openly welcomed Earth to their new frontier, several had not, and the Coalition's expansion into space was met with the occasional war.  Fighting continued into the 24th century, as Earth fleets were forced into wars with two of their neighbors, the Croban and Kleendarine Empires, in the first half of the century.

It was from these wars that the problems of 2369 surfaced.  In the Klin-Earth war of 2321, Coalition ships had liberated several nations that had been previously conquered by the Klin.  The Coalition pledged to help rebuild these nations and leave them by the year 2369, when they would be allowed to find their own path in the galaxy.  However, when 2369 arrived, Earth was unprepared to withdraw the Coalition fleet, which acted as a protective shield for the people of these three nations.  The Coalition feared that if they left, either the Blerenstian or Kleendarine Empires would invade the countries.  The Blern and Klin objected to this violation of Coalition treaties and threatened the Coalition with retaliation.  The Coalition was not prepared to back down and it was the Blern who struck.

On June 1, 2369, nearly 30,000 Blern ships crossed the Coalition Border near the Omicron system.  The Coalition mobilized to counter this unexpected invasion, but their efforts were slow and casualties heavy in the first days of the war.  Within a week, the Coalition had lost nearly 14,000 ships and the massive Galactic Fleet Bases at Omicron had been surrounded.  With casualties mounting, the Coalition stepped up its mobilization of the reserve forces to a hectic pace and moved to make every remaining ship take its toll on the invading forces.  With the reserve forces coming into service and the advent of a new technology, a cloaking device, the Coalition hoped to be able to deal a significant blow to the Blern, and eventually drive them back across the border.

The 15th Reserve Corps had been mobilized to fight the war, and was now speeding to Omicron, to deploy a new weapon for the Coalition and aid in the defense of the base.  The two counter attacks launched by the Coalition forces had been destroyed.  The 15th Corps and the weapons it was transporting could now be the last great hope for the future of the Coalition.
