About the Book

After her failed suicide attempt Jessica is referred to a psychiatrist. At first she is reluctant to reveal why she wanted to die. But it emerges over a few sessions that she had been raped and sexually abused since she was eight years old, and is now pregnant by that rapist.

She is confused about what to do and feels that she has no-one to turn to. Jessica refuses to name the baby's father, much to her mother, Harriet's chagrin. Why is Harriet so upset? Is it just the fact that Jessica will be an unmarried mother, or is there more to it than that? They live in a small town where everyone knows, or think they know everyone else's business, and the gossips have a field day with Jessica's news.

Jessica's aunt Melanie, offers to take her in, but is there a more sinister reason for her offer besides family loyalty? And what about Matthew? Why has he returned to his home town, after breaking Jessica's heart when he left? Jessica soon discovers that she isn't the only one who has secrets, and it's only by coming to terms with them can she lay the ghosts of her past to rest and finally get on with her life.

About the Author

Annette Gisby's writing began with short stories to her friends as a child. She grew up in Ireland, moving to London at seventeen, where she met her future husband. Gaining her English 'O' level a year early, she ws encouraged in her writing by her then English teacher, Mrs. Cosgrove. Having had articles published in newspapers, she realised what she really wanted to do was tell stories, use her imagination more in her writing. Hence was born "Silent Screams."
