DISCOVERY OF HEART W. T. MINICH SUMMARY Discovery of Heart is a fantasy adventure book like nothing you have ever read before. It has about twice as many scenes as any other book this size. It is a novella collection centered around the exploits of Coraf, son of Sadatoo. There are dragons, orcs, elves, dwarves, knights, druids, barbarians, and monsters like no other novella collection ever put out. It is perfect for if you have an hour to kill, most of the stories are readable in an hour, I’m sure you’ll be delighted by this fun book. Know that this book is written to entertain, not instruct. Coraf-He’s the main character and appears in every story contained therein. He was raised by elves as his true parents had to give him away to save his blessed life. He is rash when drunk, kind to his friends, courageous to a fault, and is committed to defeating evil wherever it rears its ugly head. Polithia-A dryad that Coraf falls in love with; however, they two do spend much time apart and get back together in the story Promise. She tries life in the city for a time in a city where the mostly elfish population lives and works in the branches of magically grown trees. Her father, an ancient tree by the name of Darbustian dies to a curse of an evil cult. She had depended on him for everything. She grows from a helpless girl with magical powers taught her by her deceased father to a bastion of good works. She ends up loving the poor and the defenseless, dedicated to helping those who cannot help themselves. Olatis-Evil priestess that creates curse that kills Darbustian and several square miles of virgin forest. Lanarra-Coraf’s adopted mother, a loving elfish lady, she loves Coraf as if she had borne him for nine months. She has taught him a few tricks of alchemy she learned from a faerie of sorts. She would of taught him more, but Coraf is only twenty and not alive long enough to learn all that she knows. Sadatoo-Coraf’s adopted father, a kind sweet elf that has a tight bond with whom he views as his very own son. He taught is son how to live off and love the land, a lesson that never leaves this young man. Jebidee-A horse trained by elfs and has a magical lineage. She is truly an important part of the book. She’s loyal to Coraf and loves him greatly, as he her, they have traveled the west for the past three years. Deathbird-A tribe of orcs that live in Forlorn under the command of Lord Kilgor, destroy a peaceful village that Coraf comes across afterwards, he tracks them down and learns of major problem for Lordland. Blue Cloud Inn-An inn near Forlorn in Lordland, serves as launching point for Coraf’s effort against the invading army. War of Suppression-The last time the orcs under Lord Kilgor invaded Lordland six years prior to this book. Saynar-Old friend of Coraf and owner of Blue Cloud Inn, provides much assistance in the defense of his own country. Tirto-A rambunctious halfling thief, he is very proud of all his accomplishments, performs great act of heroism scouting out the enemy. Embowey-An elfish partner of Tirto, an excellent scout, not above stealing, joins the cavalry of Lordland to drive back the invasion. General Brackard-Commander of army near Blue Cloud Inn, heads an outpost not too far from Saynar’s place of business, reasonable yet rigid. Sherriff Alomin-Underling of the general, in charge of the militia, Coraf and his two friends are appointed to his unit. Lord Kilgor-A reoccurring villian, he’s an evil spirit in the guise of a handsome young male, his symbol is that of a blue lion. His aspiration is to be the last living thing on all of Menthok. Backwash-A town in Lordland that is plagued by ratmen, not too small, not too big, swampland to the north is a major setting in the story. About the Author
Ted Minich is a native of a small town in northern central Pennsylvania now residing in Roanoke, Virginia. He works day labor doing construction work, everything from digging to carpentry to painting to warehouse work and building scaffolds as well. He does not have much money, but surrounds himself with a few people he knows to be good and stays happy that well. His religion is celtic paganism in the tradition of druidry. He loves women and a good beer after a hard days work. His family he misses greatly and wishes to see them as often as possible. He hopes to one day to start a charity buying up land in the amazon and let the trees grow so we have enough oxygen to survive.
