About the Book

In 1864, Winnie Davis, youngest daughter of Jefferson Davis, was born in the Confederate White House in Richmond, Virginia. Her life encompassed a nomadic childhood, an education in a boarding school in Germany, the traumatic death of her father, and culminated in an ill-fated engagement to the grandson of a leading Abolitionist. Winnie was intelligent and independent, a world traveler and the author of two novels. Finally Winnie realized that the events of The War Between the States exerted complete control over her destiny. Like the Bonnie Blue Flag, she passed into history as another symbol of the Lost Cause.
