About the Book

This is a small book that is easy to pick up and read in short sessions, or all at one time on a rainy afternoon. the mountain scene appearing on the cover is a painting done by the author, Elle Stacy, some years ago. Combining sky, clouds and trees in soft blues, lavenders and greens, it sets the mood for this first collection of her poems, which celebrates nature.

You will find some of Mrs. Stacy's work to be contemplative, some to be light hearted and fun, and some in which her strong religious faith shines through. Included throughout are images of more of her paintings, adding color, depth, and light.

About the Author

Elle Stacy, who celebrated her 94th birthday this year, has been writing poetry most of her life. She has authored hundreds -- perhaps more than a thousand -- poems, on a wide variety of topics. When her daughter began to categorize them recently, she realized that much of what her mother has written celebrates nature, whether the poems are contemplative, deal with special places, talk about the outdoors, or celebrate life in general. The poems in this volume express the author’s characteristic love of life, born from insight and wisdom gained during most of the 20th century. Mrs. Stacy was born in Havre De Grace, Maryland, in 1908. At the age of eight, her family moved to Philadelphia, where she graduated from Normal School and taught third grade. She and her husband lived in Pennsylvania until 1943, when they moved to New Jersey with their two young daughters. After her husband’s death in 1964, she moved to Long Boat Key, Florida, where she lived until 1995, returning then to northern New Jersey to be near her daughters and their families. In addition to writing poetry, which she regularly reads to a local audience, Mrs. Stacy plays the piano and is an accomplished artist, working in oil, water color and acrylics. Some of her paintings are included in this volume as illustrations.
