About the Book

The book compiles twelve short stories all surrounding TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). The stories are told from different perspectives and from different points of view to capture the diversity of the people being affected daily by the condition. Silent Screams has been written by a brain injury survivor who felt a need out there to fill a void in the literature on TBI, and to help other families and friends understand what it’s like to live in a world having this condition. Hopefully, this books helps people understand some of the basic things that happen when TBI occurs. But let us not forget that no two brain injuries are exactly same as is witnessed by the differing stories which share equal footing on the pages of this book.

About the Author

On December 21, 1999, Maria Antonia Hernandez was involved in a vehicular accident which almost took her life. Two and half weeks in a coma, a year of her memory erased, and eight months of unconscious behavior, the road to recovery began. Maria currently resides in Miami Fl with her family and her beloved long haired Chihuahua, Havana. Presently, Hernandez has been appointed to the board of the Commission on Disability Issues and on the Brain Injury Association of Florida. Maria hopes that these appointments make a difference in the struggle to bring head injury into the forefront of the public eye.
