Jim Alter headed a mid-sized industrial equipment distribution company for many years. He was also president of two national trade associations. More recently, he has been a professional speaker, a trade magazine columnist, and an adjunct professor teaching management on the graduate level. Mr. Alter and his wife live in downtown Chicago. They have traveled extensively, visiting over 40 countries. They have eleven grandchildren.
