About the Book

This creative non-fiction story is written so that future generations will know what war with all its violent deaths, fears and deep emotions did to shape the innocent lives of so many young American men and women of the great twentieth century.

Soon after war was declared against Japan for the bombing of Pearl Harbor, two young patriotic high school students, aggressive sports rivals, called a truce and agreed to join the military together to help fight the enemy of their country, and not one another. They later learned they had mistakenly joined different military branches of service and were separated, not expecting to see one another again until after the war, if ever.

They were miraculously reunited overseas and later rescued by their guardian angel from sure death during a gigantic typhoon storm at sea aboard the same ship. After that near death experience, the two became best friends and discovered God together, a faith that was instrumental in saving each of their lives, again and again.

After some of the most bloody battles in the Pacific, wounded and war-torn by stress, the war suddenly ended. They were sent home for Honorable Discharge, but had great difficulty adjusting to hometown civilian life as vivid flashbacks of the war plague them both. They decided to separate and travel in the interim, giving them more time to settle down and discover what had happened to their lives.

The two young men hitchhiked the open U.S. highways, desperately seeking their Utopia, good fortune and destinies. After a few lonely months, they met and found work together on the railroad. They later hired on as a star attraction for a traveling carnival sideshow. Unfortunately, that experience was weird enough to send them both packing for home, whew!

It was not until they finally returned to their own hometown to settle down were they able to put their horrors of war experiences behind them. They gradually felt secure enough among their old local high school peers to go on to live productive, post-war civilian lives.

The two young war Veterans met their "first loves" at their homecoming party; they later married and made their contribution to the baby boomers´ generation. At last! Their long sought after destinies discovered right in their own hometown. It was there all the time; they just didn´t realize it! They all kept in touch, grew old together, and lived happily ever after.
