About the Author

Doreen O’Connor-Gómez is Associate Professor of Spanish at Whittier College, Whittier, California, where she teaches courses in Spanish language, literature, culture and Latin American Studies. Her primary areas of research interest include social control and deviance in Peninsular Golden Age and Colonial Latin American literatures, Women Writers from Latin America, and Immigration and its representation in theater and film. She was the Coordinator of the 2003 PCCLAS Conference, The Contexts and Consequences of Neoliberalism, at Whittier College, where she received the Nerhood Teaching Excellence Award in 1995. Irene Vasquez received her Ph.D. from the History department at the University of California, Los Angeles. Currently, she is the Chair of the Chicana and Chicano Studies Department at California State University, Dominguez Hills. In 2004 she was a Visiting Research Scholar in the Center for Regional Studies at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. She is co-authoring a book on the Chicana/o Movement entitled, Aztlan Making: The Chicana/o Movement: Ideology and Culture, 1966-1977. Irene was the Coordinator of the 2002 PCCLAS Conference, The Many Threads of Latin America: Diversity and Change/America Latina: Un textil de diversidad y cambio.
