About the Author

MARIAN BRITTON, author of Alta California - Land of Fire, a history of early settlers and the Indians who once trod Northern California lands now planted to wine grapes, came here from San Francisco where she owned the Britton Gallery featuring Native American Indian art of All Tribes. Born in the San Joaquin Valley she was staff writer for ABC-KARM radio station, as well as moderator of a daily public service program. Prior to that she was editor of a small, city-owned newspaper. As Indian Historian she made a four by four foot map of Indian territories prior to Mexican rule. The map was used in a documentary film produced on the history of Sonoma Valley by the United States Marine Corps. of Treasure Island.
