About the Book

This collection of poetry represents work completed over the course of the past 35 years. Most of the poems included are free verse, while others are examples of more structured verse, such as sonnets, haikus, and a villenelle. While these poems were not written especially for this collection, they exhibit certain themes and concerns throughout. Many of the poems are built around opposites. For example, one poem contrasts the constantly changing patterns of a kaleidoscope with the unchanging form of a kaleidoscope. Others are based on the oppositions of sky and earth, night and day, life and death, and some contrast the permanence of the natural world with the impermanence of human life.

About the Author

L.M. Sargent, with a husband and four sons at home to take care of, enrolled at Casper College, in Casper, Wyoming and attended her first college class in 1970 at the age of 33. In 1991, twenty one years after she began, she received her Master of Arts degree in English. L.M. Sargent has published poetry in The Blue Unicorn, Ormfaer, and a number of regional poetry journals.
